For the life of me, I cannot find a way in Numbers to 'freeze' headings so that as you scroll down or across the sheet they remain visible. In order to freeze the top row in Excel Mac or the first column, we can select any cell and click the freeze button. If you don't see convert to header row then this is not the problem. Select the View tab, Windows Group, click the Freeze Panes drop down and select Freeze Panes.
